The ‘timing of’ Peter’s denial of Jesus is very intriguing. His master is arrested, and Peter denies any knowledge of Jesus. Then, as foretold, the cock crows in the moment of denial. The timing is interesting. It takes place after their intimacy of the last supper. Few hours ago, the disciples were the closest to their friend-master-God. Now, a full denial. Our moral psyche is fragile.
Lent warns us that this landslide of sin can happen to us, too. Our sins are like this Petrine moment of losing balance. When it happens, let us cling to Him who alone can restore our lost balance – with his uninterrupted closeness. 04.02.2023
